Application Builder

Powered by Node-RED , the AppBuilder is designed to easily program and control Tait Unified Vehicle functions and interaction with the range of devices, networks and applications you have available. You can build your own custom applications to operate just the way you need to, or ask Tait to develop an application for you.

Custom Applications

An array of business outcomes can be achieved with the flexible and programmable AppBuilder powered by Node-RED and SMC.

All this application processing power is housed within the Tait Unified Vehicle unit - a small form factor that significantly reduces the need for additional equipment to be installed.

Every Tait Unified Vehicle is capable of running applications with AppBuilder. Developers Licences are available for Behaviors and Advanced Node-RED capability. Run-time Licences are enabled per device and allow an unlimited number of AppBuilder applications to operate. Applications can be deployed with Over the Air Programming (OTAP).

How people are using AppBuilder

Weather Alerts

Broadcast alerts such as lightning proximity from online weather services.

Construction example: Crane operators at building sites need to be warned about any adverse weather conditions such as high winds that could affect safe working.

Tech Smarts: RSS feeds from weather services are used to warn of hazards, showing alerts on the radio display and triggering visual and audible alarms. As the edge device, the Tait Unified Vehicle Radio makes a decision based on wind speed forecasts to advise a crane operator to cease work.

This application was created with the AppBuilder “Advanced” Developer Licence.

Electronic Signage Control

Manage and update electronic signage, such as on busses, on mining or construction sites, or roadside.

Bus operator example: Signage can be used to display timely information to customers about changing situations such as traffic holdups, without the ongoing costs of using a cellular or carrier service.

Tech Smarts: A central Tait Unified Vehicle unit with RS232 Communications Port forwards information to a recipient device using a DMR Short Data Message (SDM).

This application was created with the AppBuilder “Advanced” Developer Licence.

Event Detection

Monitor your assets and facilities, log events and trigger alarms.

Remote facility example: A remote hut without LTE coverage requires monitoring of two key factors: whether the door is open/closed and the status of an intruder sensor.

Tech Smarts: Using the external I/O Inputs on Tait Unified Vehicle, an Appbuilder Behavior is created to send a DMR Short Data Message (SDM) to another radio on the network whenever a state changes on either I/O line.

This application was created with the AppBuilder “Behaviors” Developer Licence.

MQTT Integration

MQTT (MQ Telemetry Transport) is a machine-to-machine or “Internet of Things” connectivity protocol on top of TCP/IP.

Freight example: A refrigerated truck uses MQTT devices to collect temperature data. This data is used to prove the cargo was not compromised during transit, or create an alert if temperature trends are indicating imminent failure.

Tech Smarts: Tait Unified Vehicle units connect to MQTT devices via Wifi, and pass on temperature and location information via LTE to a central MQTT Broker.

This application was created with the AppBuilder “Advanced” Developer Licence.

Web forms and Database Activities

WiFi connected devices can utilize web browser-based forms to enter data that is transferred to a central point using the radio or cellular network.

Task Dispatching

Sent/acknowledged confirmation for LMR text and status messages. This allows command and control apps to be more robust; a user needs to know if their command to switch on a remote pump or lighting rig has been delivered.

Store and forward data collection

Measurements from external sensors (such as air quality sensors), radio/cellular signal strengths, GPS and other data can be stored while the unit is out of cellular/WiFi coverage. This data provides valuable insights when uploaded to back-end services for analysis and fleet management.

Vehicle blackbox

Beyond voice recording, information such as location and speed can be time-stamped and stored for post-event auditing. Data from external sensors (on doors, lights, weapon cases), engine OBDII monitors, or accelerometers can be added to create a richer event history.

And many more!

AppBuilder is also being used for Alarm Handling, Device Control, Serial Port integration, Geo-location, and Geo-fencing applications. Contact us to find out more!

Deploying Apps to your Fleet

Applications are deployed via Tait EnableFleet to a fleet of Tait Unified Vehicle units that have the AppBuilder Run-Time Licence.

Standard Applications for Tait Unified Vehicle

Explore the range of applications available for Tait Unified Vehicle that are independent of AppBuilder functionality.

On Board Voice Recorder

All transmissions sent and received through Tait Unified Vehicle are stored on-board along with key metadata. Smart devices connected to Tait Unified Vehicle via WiFi can provide local playback, and secure web browser playback is available from any device with an internet connection.

Remote App

Some radio networks may not have portable radio coverage, or the ability to afford portable radios for all their workers. Using the Remote app on Android devices, a user can connect to their vehicle’s mobile radio via WiFi. They can then monitor and join conversations while away from the vehicle, and even make emergency calls over the radio network.

Lone Worker mode

Tait Unified Vehicle and all Tait 9000 series radios can be programmed with an inactivity countdown timer. This prompts users to check in with teammates and sends an alert in the event of periods of inactivity.

Tait GeoFencing

Available for Tait Unified Vehicle and all current 9000 series radios - add this software licence and GPS receiver to enable Automated Location Controlled Radio behavior.

OTAP over WiFi

Update configuration settings, deliver new software and applications for Tait Unified Vehicle with OTAP (Over-The-Air-Programming) using Tait EnableFleet.
