At a national awards ceremony in Christchurch last Thursday, the recipient of the 2011 Tait Radio Communications Flying Kiwi Award for hi-tech excellence was announced.
Tait is proud to congratulate Brent Robinson on receiving the 2011 Flying Kiwi Award—the premier industry award from the New Zealand Hi-Tech Trust.
The Flying Kiwi Award celebrates individuals who have made a sustained and outstanding contribution to New Zealand's software, electronics, telecommunications and biotechnology industries, and winners are inducted into the New Zealand Hi-Tech Hall of Fame.
James Kyd, Tait Chief Marketing Officer, presented the Flying Kiwi trophy to Brent, acknowledging him as one of New Zealand's great innovators.
"Seldom do you find technical innovation that is matched with an ability to innovate in the business model and execution," he says. "We have that in Brent Robinson and Rakon."
As well as CEO of crystal manufacturer Rakon, Brent acts as Chief Technology Officer and has been behind many of the company's technological advancements. This has included many world-first developments, including the unique manufacturing technology that has given Rakon its core competitive advantage and is still without peer in the world.
The Flying Kiwi Awards have run as a separate event for four years now, with this being the third year Tait has sponsored. Tait's association with the Hi-Tech Trust spans nearly a decade, having sponsored award categories in the past.
"Tait is committed to celebrating the pioneers and innovators of the industry," says Frank Owen, Managing Director of Tait Radio Communications.
"High technology is a growth engine for New Zealand and the Flying Kiwi Awards play an important role in recognizing and encouraging that growth. By celebrating those who forge new paths in the industry, those who embrace innovation and who lead by example, this inspires all of us to aim higher and to keep striving. Such people leave lasting legacies and their knowledge and experience benefits a new generation of technology entrepreneurs.
"Tait is delighted to continue supporting this prestigious industry award into 2012."
