Paul Gwynn, Tait Radio Communications Business Development Manager, Europe, Middle East, Africa, has been elected chairman of the IT and Services Committee of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).
Paul's appointment as chairman was announced by General Secretary of the UITP Hans Rat at the General Assembly Meeting during the recent UITP World Congress in Dubai.
A key aspect of Paul's new role will be to foster closer collaboration with the Information Technology and Innovation Commission (ITI), which represents the technology requirements of the public transport industry.
"In Dubai, we held the first joint session between the IT and Services Committee and the ITI Commission. We agreed to form five joint work-groups to look at specific issues over the next two years. This is an exciting new development in relationships between industry and authorities and will lead to some productive outcomes for both parties," says Paul, who is based at Tait regional headquarters in Vienna.
Considerations for the joint groups' work programs include video technology and communications for the UITP Security Commission, electronic ticketing, open data exchange, the new European Bus System of the Future project, and a Europe-wide travel planner to aid travelers.
As chairman of the IT and Services Committee, Paul also joins the UITP's Policy Board – the decision-making body of the UITP on professional matters. The Board approves all of the official international policy positions of UITP on transport issues, as well as the association's international work program.
