Frank joined Tait as Managing Director in May 2009 following Michael Chick’s retirement.
Having spent a number of years as an electronics engineer for Philips in UK, France, Holland and Austria, Frank moved to the US, initially with Raychem, then to Tyco, where he had responsibility for their Power Components Division with a staff of over 4000 worldwide.
At university he was attracted to radio systems engineering from the very first year and in his first job with Philips led the development of the TDMA DECT radio interface at ETSI.
Frank believes one of the great advantages of working for an international company such as Philips was the opportunity to live and work in other countries. He has now worked in many European countries and the USA before putting down roots in New Zealand with his family in 2003. Soon after his arrival he met with Sir Angus Tait who provided wise words of advice on the development and future opportunities for the Canterbury electronics industry.
Frank Owen has a BSc (First Class) in Electronic Engineering from University of London and an MBA from IMD International in Switzerland. He is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, an amateur radio licence holder and a director of the Canterbury Development Corporation.
